I had so much fun being interviewed on the Working Motherhood podcast! It was released today on iTunes. You can listen at http://www.workingmotherhood.com/podcasts/cherilyn-dahlsten/ Dr. Portia Jackson is a scientist, mom and entrepreneur - very inspiring. Her Working Motherhood podcast is climbing the iTunes charts!

If you already listened to the podcast, you have heard my story of getting our four sons, and my husband, involved in the cooking.  You probably also gathered that I am not someone who loves to cook.  And yet I wrote a cookbook!  So you will understand that my blog is not so much about cooking as it is about parenting. The cookbook is a parenting tool and it just so happens to include food your whole family will love!

This cookbook is a launching pad.  It will teach your children (and your spouse) the skills they need to be confident cooks.  From there, the sky is the limit!  After gaining confidence, head on over to the homemade bread cookbook, the fancy gourmet cookbook or the vegetarian that doesn't taste vegetarian cookbook.  I have them all in my cupboard and pull them out occasionally.  But when we have a busy week coming up, I pass the Hey Mom I'll Start Dinner cookbook around the family and have everyone pick a recipe. We buy double the ingredients, and everyone makes a double batch on their night.  One for dinner and one for the freezer.  It's a beautiful thing.  Two weeks of meals with very little stress and much lower cost than eating out.

The most exciting thing about this journey is that not only is it great for the working parent, it is great for our kids!  They have the opportunity to contribute, to make a difference that really matters, to be a vital member of the team, and to learn skills that will be invaluable to them:  time management, organization, multi-tasking, reading, comprehension, following directions, problem solving, serving others and, of course, cooking! I am constantly coming across research validating what I stumbled into with my children.  Happiness, confidence and meaning are found in serving others and knowing we have made a contribution that blessed someone else.

Head on over to Amazon and order the book and see for yourself what an incredible tool the cookbook can be. And stop back by the blog to read helpful tips to overcome obstacles along the way.

I love to receive your comments either here or on my Facebook Page.
